Chico Schwall plays, sings, writes songs and agitates as a soloist and with groups such as the Low Tide Drifters. He also curates a concert series at the Shedd called Chico Schwall's American Roots and teaches "anything with strings" at the Shedd Institute. Ben and Rachael Young come from the Irish traditional session background, having played with many groups across Canada and throughout Washington, Oregon, and California. Ben is an accomplished musician who plays whistle, banjo, and guitar. Rachael, who plays double bass, piano and other instruments, has a background in music and theatre.
Karen Olsen has been calling on the Oregon Coast for 15 years. She likes to keep the dancers moving, starting out with simpler dances in the beginners lesson, and progressing to more complex dances. She strives to infuse both her calling and the dancers with her own joyful enthusiasm for contra dance and music. She is also a musician and plays her concertina for dances in Coos Bay.
