March 9, Friday, Treehouse with Karen Olsen calling

Event:  09-Mar-2018

Treehouse is comprised of Bo Leyden (mandolin, banjo, flute), Becky Dorsey (fiddle), Benjamin Young (banjo, whistle), and Rachael Young (piano). Between them they bring a mix of Irish, Quebecois, and New England style, and put it together with Pacific Northwest flair. Bo has been a longtime contra dance musician and dancer, and currently operates Calliope Musicworks, constructing and repairing stringed instruments. Becky has played for dances throughout VT, NJ, AZ, and CA and previously played with Amazon Creek in Eugene. Ben and Rachael come from the Irish traditional session background, having played with many groups across Canada and throughout the West Coast.

Karen Olsen has been calling on the Oregon Coast for 15 years. She likes to keep the dancers moving, starting out with simpler dances in the beginners lesson, and progressing to more complex dances. She strives to infuse both her calling and the dancers with her own joyful enthusiasm for contra dance and music. She is also a musician and plays her concertina for dances in Coos Bay.

Dance held at Village School, 3411 Willamette Street (site formerly called the old Dunn School) in Eugene! $8-$10

Lesson at 7:00 pm. Dance begins at 7:30 pm.
